As to the Texas Inspection Sticker. If you register the vehicle as an antique (25yrs or older) you are exempt from the inspection law. Additionally the plates will cost you $40 for 4 or 5 years. There are some restrictions with this type of registration but the most important is you can't use the vehicle to commute to work. Other errands pretty much fall under the registration requirements.

I checked the Antique and Former Military Vehicle regs.
Only trips for inspection, service, or maintenance are allowed
besides shows, parades, etc. no running down to Sonic on a
Saturday afternoon or taking the grand kids for a ride.
