I have never been confident on the beach sands of MVY or RI when driving NDT/NDCC. My CJ has 225/75/15 General Grabber AT2 radials on 15" CJ5 wheels for snow plowing and beach sand and they work very well.
Radials are forgiving but don't look the part so your choice will continue to depend upon use and driving style.

The STA looks great and get good reviews on the trail but soft dune sand is a real test.

The MB wheel and the M38 wheel are identicle in dimensions. The standard tire size for the MB is 6.00-16 and for the M38 7.00-16. The CJ applications with this wheel offered the 6.00-16, 6.50-16, & 7.00-16 options as well as several 15" and even a 13" wheel option.

OK, based on what I see available and not using the vehicle for shows I'm going to get the STA Super Traxion when the time comes. At $153/tire, plus inner tube and I presume the valve flaps it's about $800+ for a set of new tires!
Based on what Wes wrote, it sounds like the right sized STA Super Traction for me (1952 M38 - original wheels, etc) is the 650-16.

Our northwest region discount tire chain "Les Schwab" is a STA dealer and if you buy from them they'll mount 'em N/C. You guys might consider that instead of buying direct and mounting yourself. My set of (5) ran $1035
for tires/tubes mounted and balanced. They only threw in the N/C balance cause i'm an AG customer. BTW I already had a spare set of rim flaps.

That works if we're local but I'm in Massachusetts.
I have a local tire shop I work with. They're not the most inexpensive but they're great to work with, honest, and fully back up all their work.

If your local tire guy has a business relationship w/STA sometimes they can cut a good deal.

I have the STA tires on my CJ3B plow jeep and they are great in the snow. Much improvement from 15 inch mud and snow tires. Quiet on the street also,just a slight hum.
