Wes, heres a pic of that oil pump boss on the side of the block with the odd hole in the bottom, its the one at 6 o'clock. got any idea what it is?

Winner winner chicken dinner, I gotta a runner with oil pressure. I'm convinced that when these oil pumps are on a dry start unprimed they won't pull oil right off, if at all. Just my point of view. Short of pulling the motor to chase this mystery down I tried one last thing. Got new gaskets and a jar of Vaseline. Pulled off the front of the motor to get the timing cover off, rolled over the timing gears to the marks, fingered a load of Vaseline in the forward suction hole and into the pump gears and their intakes. Then stabbed the pump making sure the slot ended up in the 11:00 position looking via the distributer hole. Then stabbed the distributer making sure that #1 hole was in the 7:00 position, I had to rotate my holes clockwise one hole per Wes's suggestion/TM correction. I threw it back together and it fired right up.
However though "" I noticed an unpleasant noise coming from the starter when engaging the flywheel. The bendix wasn't happy playing there. I knew the starter was from possibly a 134L, I knew it wasn't the right one for this motor, 134F. It was a Autolite MBR-4301UT, it had a flat nose with a starter switch and it meshed with a 124 tooth flywheel. Somewhere along the line someone had put in a flywheel #635394 a 97 tooth. No wonder the starter wasn't happy.
I looked at the flywheel that was on the L I had pulled out of this jeep and there was a 124 tooth flywheel. So, out comes the power unit. Break it in half and replace the 124 for the 97. I dropped it back in, wired it up and got it wet and fired it up. Sounds good too.
I don't have much left on this one, it'll be done soon.
