Distributor no spark

Here I am again. I did everything I could. Read Wes's articles and looked at his pictures. I put my distributor together just like the pictures put it in the block. The plug wires were backwards at least I think they were. The picture and the location of the plug wires were just the opposite of what the other guy did. Firing order 1-3-4-2 with the first cylinder being in the front then 2 and 3 and 4 at the back. I changed the wires to this way. On the distributor the number 1 cylinder is at the bottom left if you are looking straight at it. Then number 2 is at the upper left corner just above the number 1. Then number 3 is at the bottom right and 4 is at the upper right. I hooked the hot wire directly to the battery because I have no body on it and no starter switch. I turned the motor over and nothing. Took plug out and no spark. Took distributor off and I am getting spark through the points but no spark through the wires. I don't think I am getting spark through the rotor cap. Am I doing some thing wrong?

Going out to try one more thing. Going to clean the top of coil where the spring goes in to see if this is the problem.

Well went out found out I had my coil wires crossed. I then found out that the wire that is the positive was burnt in two. Fixed them put the juice to the starter bout Brown material my pants. That engine runs like a new one. Not bad for a parts vehicle. I got a deal on that onem
