Tranny / transfer case fluid levels

When I check the levels in my transmission and transfer case, the latter is usually slightly overfilled and the transmission down about 3 ounces. I know that some fluid seeps from one unit to the other but don't know if the amounts I'm seeing are normal.

When I service the Jeep, I add fluid to the tranny as needed. Am I doing this right or is there a problem with the seal between the units that needs to be addressed.

Thanks!

Fluid levels

I'm going to give the links you gave me a closer look when I have a few minutes but my first impression is that the transfer case will be overfilled in normal use and that topping off the tranny when needed should keep both units functioning normally.

I've pulled the plug from the bell housing and there is no leakage. I do have some leaks coming from somewhere and plan to try to track them down using a dye additive. Meanwhile, I just want to make sure I don't run the fluids too low.

Owning a M38A1 has certainly been a (fun) education.
