Cuno oil filter restrictor

Post by Jeff_Lee »

Hi - I bought a Cuno filter, hoses and fittings from MWM for my '51 M38. All fits and installs as it should.... good so far. But in the fittings bag, I found two straight fittings: one is restricted and the other is normally open.

I am trying to get this installed today (Sunday) so I can't call John... does the Cuno need the restrictor fitting on the inlet side to keep the oil pressure up in the galley? I know the standard canister filter has the restrictor hole in the inlet side of the filter.

Thanks and regards, Jeff

The Cuno filter is already restricted--look inside the inlet port and you will see the small hole. What you describe with the fittings you have, sounds like the restricted fittings for the distributor vacuum line which also needs to be restricted to keep from having a huge vacuum leak to the engine.

Thanks for the Sunday clinic, Harold. Mission accomplished.
