Ream Main Seals

Anybody know where to go to find information on rear main seals for a GPW rebuild. Apparently you are supposed to measure the journal width to see if the new neoprene seals can be used as the old ones were too tight and would burn and leak like crazy. Army Jeep Parts George Baxter said this was the forum to go to and there was in depth discussion on this topic but I could not find it in the archives anywhere. This is my first post.
