under the fuel tank support

Post by dauntless »

What is being used under the fuel tank on a M-38 to get the filler neck position correctly that does not absorb water.? Did a search and came up with nothing. Thanks Jerry

Thick rubber strips like conveyor belt material works. Just don't put anything under there that has spaces that act like a dams and like you said drinks water.

I bought a piece of 1/8" neoprene and will cut it into the right
sized strips. I have seen the gasket that goes around the drain plug
but don't plan on installing one so any water can drain.

There is also a grommet that goes in the fuel filler neck opening.

Take care,

Hello Dauntless,

The first place to look for parts is the ORD 9 SNL G-740 which is the M38 Illustrated Parts Manual. If you don't have a copy yet download a PDF copy free on our downloads page.

Go to Page 80. Right at the top. It is called Anti-Squeak, fuel tank. There are 6 pieces . 3 of one size and 3 different sizes.

Originally this was a welting or later fabric/rubber strip. Today you should look for any modern silicon rubber bulk material that you can cut to size. The length & widths are given. You should determine the thickness you need to get your filler pipe centered. Also use a layout that allows water to find it's way to the drain.
