Engine type/model

Post by tnspd »

Where do I look on my M38A1 engine for markings to determine what engine model is in the jeep? I need to fond out so I can purchase some gaskets and seals to fix a few leaks.

Purchasing gaskets should be very simple if your M38A1 has the stock engine it. The M38A1 built from 1952 thru 1970 used the same F134 the entire production run. There was an early and late casting number but assembly and parts for the basic engine remained the same.

The serial number is on the small flat above the water pump. If the engine came accessorized for the M38A1 from Willys the serial would be MDXXXXX or RMDXXXXX and if it came from Willys accessorized for a civvy jeep the serial would be 4JXXXXXX.

Thanks. I finally looked on the engine and got the number on it. It reads MD25540.
