L-134 Crankshaft pulley removal

Post by Brumbach »

I understand a special tool is needed to remove the crankshaft pulley to avoid damaging. What I've read states that a standard pulley puller will damage it. If true, where can I find the proper tool?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately the stock Pulley doesn't have pulley bolt holes threaded into it's hub. So use a standard 3 or 4 jaw puller if it doesn't come off by hand. If it is stuck tight then reinforce the back edge of the rear pulley flange with a few pieces of steel flat stock where the puller legs grab the pulley flange.

With the retaining nut removed, the pulley can easily be moved the block outward by nearly an inch. It then stops short of coming off. Is this normal? I ask only to avoid damaging the pulley by forcing it off with a puller. Thanks - Bill

As the pulley moves forward try using a thin punch to tap the key rearward

Got it! Key wasn't interfering...just needed a little tap with a rubber mallet. Thanks
