Top Bows M38A1
Ok little help here.
I have MWM top bows and rods.
WeeBee Webbings drawing shows a 27.5" vertical rod and
According to there Pic's the vertical rod is flush with the
Top Horizontal rod.
Johns are 29" and according to pic's on Wes's albums of other
Jeeps the extra length passes above the top rod a few inches.
Should I cut??
Also not sure how John's vertical to horizontal clips orientate.
Have some idea but does the vert. rod pass to the inside of the
Horz. rod? That's how I interpret the few pic's I see.
Is the clamp screw on top or bottom and clamps the Vertical rod?
Or clamps the Horizontal rod and the Vertical rod floats.
The bottom body rod holder that the rod sits in is capped, so it
Can't fall through.
Hoping someone can help I hate to bother John unless I have too.
Thanks
Tom

Hey Tom,
I knew I had seen this somewhere here. Just took a few minutes to find.
Do not cut the rods.
See below:

Thanks
I missed that one
Helps somewhat.
So I guess the clips pinch the horizontal rod and
The vertical rod floats.
Would make sense now because you wouldn't want the
Vertical rod moving fore and aft.
Thanks Brian!!

That article addresses the m170 I believe.
These are the Army kit drawings for the top installation on the m38A1:

They are on this page in my photo album: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules. ... _album.php

Thanks Wesk.
I saw the drawing but it's in two pages .
Now that you posted them together and more importantly
I found that you double click to enlarge even more I understand it now.
If I'm looking at this right the connector in circle "K" points the
Vertical rod to the outside of the Horizontal rod?
Thought I saw other pictures with the vert. rod to the inside?
Sorry for posting in wrong forum I wasn't sure if I was to pull
up my old build thread or start new in the project forum.
Obviously it belongs in Technical forum.

I suspect a technical writer error there. If you leave the sharp edge of the clamp outboard it will saw through the canvas.
Also note that this clamp allows for adjusting the vertical rod relative to the door frame.

Well I got the top on and very pleased.
Pictures later in my album after I get them loaded.
Thanks.

Side Curtains
Does the side curtains M38A1 go inside the top and snap?
Or they sandwiched between the outer top and flap?
Also what is the 42" strap for?
Thanks
