Happy Easter to all. This question is to all the experiance motor builders. Has anyone ever seen a fiber timing gear without the timing mark on the face of the gear? Also can the fiber gear be installed backwards? I changed the block to timing cover gasket and could not find a timing mark. How the heck did the PO time this sucker and maybe this is what is driving me crazy with the operation of the green pain in the butt.

Hello Rob, Happy Easter to you. Yes I have seen replacements without the timing prick mark. As I recall correctly the taller hub side goes towards the cam and if you use a straight edge straight thru the keyway on the front side you will find each half has 28 teeth. With the keyway positioned up at 12 o'clock you will have the timing prick mark at your 3 o'clock or 15 teeth clockwise from the 12 o'clock which falls directly between the top two teeth.

Thanks Wes. When I pull the engine for transmission and clutch work I will check this out and also make shure the oil pump is indexed properly.
