Quit running, perplexed

1) Has anyone used one of the $100 Solex carbs on their A1?
2) Does anyone know a source for rebuilding a YF carb correctly?

Complete motor overhaul. Ran great for 700 miles and started backfiring and would not stay running.
Jeep has new fuel tank, pick-up, filter, and fuel lines. Fuel pump/vacuum was rebuilt by Classic guys back east. Distributor has new guts, putting out strong spark. Engine idles but stalls and backfires at exhaust. Sprayed starter fluid around carb, vac. pump, fittings, etc. no change. Thank-you

Did the distributor get loose somehow?

Distributor was locked down tight. moving it either direction it still runs crappy and will die, ie it doesn't smooth out and allow for acceleration.

I kinda had the same problem. the distributor base plate inside the distributor was loose, so the timing would change even if the whole distributor was tight.
Worth a shot.

Condensors will do what you describe also. John

Check the condenser. I had the same problem with a condenser that was practically new. It went bad after only 140 miles.

I usually don't tell folks to "Check the condenser" . Most folks do not have condenser/capacitor test sets. The only accepted field method of "checking the condenser" without a condenser/capacitor test set is to substitute a known good one.

I checked mine by putting the old one in and solving the problem. I should have said try swapping the condenser.

Thank you all. I will replace condenser and try tomorrow.
