That is the drain plug location. The one the decal on the dash says is
in the glove box. Only to be installed during fording operations.
Why anyone would put a stud in there escapes me. It should
be pipe thread. Are you sure that isn't hollow?

I believe he is referring to the threaded shaft to the right of picture, not the drain plug near top center of picture

The stud to the right is for the Clutch linkage, one end on the bell housing the other end is on the frame...
The stud should actually be a threaded ball stud to be correct...
it is a ball on both the frame and Bell housing...

I asked the same question a few years ago.

Heres a pic of the shaft support bolted to that stud.

Hal,
Looks like you got it wrong back in February 16, 2011 in the post Bretto referred to as well.
It would have been a less confusing question if the bell housing had been posted rightside up instead of upside down!

I do know that that location is used on Willys pickup trucks for the cross shaft that operates the clutch fork. Odd ball size threads which are not the same as the transfercase mounted pivot ball. It still uses the ball end on the pickup, not a shaft style pictured. You use the M38a1 or CJ5 bell with the Kubota conversion due to a larger flywheel diameter. John

Sorry about it being upside down!!
Thanks Bretto - That's exactly it.
