M38 speedo cable question

Post by Scrounger »

I picked up a couple of speedo cables from a guy that swore they were for a M38. As my 51 didn't have one I don't have one to compare it with. These are packaged in the later foil packs with the following numbers:
3040-00-094-1631
SHAFT, ASSY, FLEX
DSA700-76-M-9483
C/C --10/75

These are of course the later inventory numbers and are not referenced in the ORD9. If anyone has the ability to reference these numbers I would sure appreciate it. These cables would probably work on a willys but I don't think they are correct for a 51 M38. Does anyone have a source for NOS speedo cables? Looks like they are probably M151.
Thanks

Try http://www.debellajeepparts.com/

As far as you NSN I am not sure. I will look it up tomorrow when at work, but it is a much later date as well as a newer NIIN sequence.

Look for a G740 or G758 number prefix.

That will help a lot in identification.

With a contract date of 10/75 I doubt they were ever meant for a M38.

The Ordnance supply stock numbers were used from WWII thru the late 50's. The Federal Stock Numbers (FSN)(xxxx-xxx-xxxx) came in the 50's and switched to the NSN (xxxx-xx-xxx-xxxx) in the 70's.

M38 Shaft, assy flexible Thru MC44029 54.5"

ORD PN 7389881 ORD Stk # G744-7389881 FSN 6680-832-7566

(For those of you wondering what a G744 vehicle is: G744 Diamond T, et al, 5 ton, 6X6 Truck, Dump, Tractor, Cargo, Wrecker)

M38A1 Shaft, assy, flexible
ORD PN 7389881 ORD Stk # (Non listed) FSN 6680-832-7566

M151 Shaft, assy
NSN 6680-00-973-4187

My guess is your shaft assy's are much newer than any of these.

Thanks to all for your responses. I knew they didn't look right when I got them but some times you have to just roll the dice and see what turns up.
Best wishes to all and thanks again.
