Matt,
This is about as good a thread as there is:
http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules. ... oil+filter
When you say it won't fit..it doesn't go in the canister or you can't get the cover on? Or is it too small?
You might have the NAPA cross for the Junior.
Take care,

I actually already used that link to get this NAPA part number. I hate to ask questions when it has already been discussed.
The cartridge won't slide down on the tube. I really gave it a good push and decided this just isn't right.
I might have a old used cartridge in the barn somewhere. I'll check that tonight for measurements.
I'm pretty sure this is the correct 5" military fram housing with the Military standard on the lid. I just finished restoring it.

If you review this chart you will note the 8E-1100 is not used in the Military Junior.
http://willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules/gall ... /008_G.jpg
Go to the WIX filter lookup page and look up Fram element C21
http://www.wixfilters.com/Lookup/Interc ... q=C21&o=me
The 1100 number can be misleading in some cases. Note how the modern reference goes to 51100
Part Number Manufacturer Abbr. Wix Part Number Lead Time
C21 ATLAS ATL 51071
C21 CAR CARE PARTS CCP 51100
C21 ATLAS ATL 51080
C21 FRAM FRM 51100
The 51100 is a CCP # and a Fram #.
Here's the three non-WIX filter substitutes listed on the WIX page for the Fram C21 for the military junior filter.
Note the 51100 is 3/4" taller & 5/8" larger diameter!

Wes,
It may not be in that chart you show but it is listed in a post by you linked to the thread I listed above. NAPA Gold 1100.
That list may have come over from the G. See the link above. Maybe it needs to be edited
Just trying to clarify.
Thanks,

My first post left out the chart I was referencing. I edited the post & added the missing chart. It is the 8E-1100 I was referring to.
When you use the WIX web site cross reference they list two 51100 #'s and neither is a NAPA #.
The G503 reference only suggested that the list shown was the best of the available lists on the G503 post.
Only way to make that G503 list official is to buy one of each filter on the list and fit it to a military junior. I really am not going to do that!

Me either Wes! One is good enough!
Thanks for clarifying.

Back to Matt's problem since we haven't heard from him. Matt, if you compare dimensions of the NAPA 1100 to the other two filters I posted you will notice that the 100 ID is smaller than the other two and the 1100 gasket is much thinner than the other two.

I have on my 54 M170 what I think is the military jr. oil filter canister. However, mine doesn't have any engraved writing on the lid, nor a drain plug on the bottom. The top is 5
inches wide, and the filter is roughly 6 inches in height overall.
I use the NAPA 1100 filter regularly with no issues in this canister.

Good point. Unless you have a housing clearly marked Military Standard Filter (Junior) then there is no guarantee the housing you have is a military Standard so the fit of the 100 may or may not be correct for the Junior. Just as in Matt's problem above he is reasonably certain he has a military junior because it is engraved correctly on the lid but the 1100 doesn't fit the center tube in his so either the 1100 doesn't fit Juniors or his Junior has a different mix and match lower housing.

I'm using a AC P115 filter in my M38A1 which is labelled with the MS35346-1 number on the top plate of my oil filter housing. This filter also comes with the appropriate sized gasket for the filter housing lid.

I have a "Military Standard" filter in the M-38A1 I am working on, it will take a Fram C4P filter with no problem, however the gasket that came with it is too small, so now I need to make a gasket to go with it...
Just need to get some gasket material or rubber sheet to make on out of...
Hope this helps...

Thank you everyone for your help. Sorry for the delay as I was having trouble posting. Wes came to my rescue again. (great guy)
I'm going to take a few more measurements and compare them to the filters you guys have suggested.
I have been very busy and allot of progress has been made!

For what it's worth, I use he NAPA Gold 1100 in the "Military Standard Filter" canister of my M38A1.
I chose this filter based on it being available locally and the following thread:
http://willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php? ... pic&t=5238
Yes, it is a snug fit over the center filter tube, but it fits. The gasket also fits without any leaks.
When I bought the jeep, it had a Fram C3P in it. I kept that filter for whatever reason. The Napa 1100 is about 1/2" taller than the Fram (5" vs 4.5"). The NAPA 1100 is about 3/16" wider in diameter than the Fram (4-1/16" vs 3-7/8"). Both have a 14mm diameter center hole.
As you can see in the photo below, I have stocked up on the NAPA 1100 over on the right side of my "filter shelf":

I guess their is no real 100% answer, but to update my findings. I found this filter to be the best fit for my application. It fits really well. The gasket fits perfectly also. Maybe this info will help someone else.
Have a great day gentlemen! ~ Matt
