Good morning All. I have just recently found a new tub, tailgate and windshield frame. the number on the tub by the drivers side firewall is
M38109981. I was wondering if this is a NOS military or a US manufacturer. The tub is about 15 years old and has a shade of OD on it.
Cheers Rob

By 15 years old, do you mean the actual age of the tub or how long the prior owner had it?
If you mean the actual age of the tub how did you determine that?
If in fact the tube is actually only 15 years old it could not be a NOS military tube nor could it be a new Kaiser/AMC/AM General produced tub.
MD Juan placed ID numbers on the cowl of their repop tubs.

Wes. I called the owner and he said he purchased it from JC Whitney about 15 yrs. ago. The number was on the gusset that goes from the firewall to the frame the number was stamped on the inside of the gusset. I was wondering if there was another manufacturer back then that maybe produce a tub. Cheers Rob

There was an Acme tub until the late 70's. Also an outfit I think was called Niagra did aluminum tubs for a few years. MD Juan has been doing them the longest.

I do not think it is an MDjuan tub as his serial number is in a format he explained here,
http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules. ... c&start=15
Although I am not sure when he started using that format either so grain of salt and all that.

ROB post some photos of the tub especially areas peculiar to the M38 series and the tub's serial location. Did we sort out which model jeep we are discussing here?

I can not access the tub easily it is in Sault Ste. Marie On. The numbers were on the drivers side toe gusset on the inside of the gusset. The dash panel had no cutouts for gauges or the M38 hole for the gauge panel. Typical barn find heaps of stuff pilled on top of it. The paint was like an OD flat primer. I will call him again but he is extremely slow to respond. Cheers Rob 1971 M38a1c

Is it for sure a steel tub,or could it be a fiberglass one?

MD Juan produced several generic jeep tubs that lack all the compliments of any one model during the late 50's/early 60's. MD Juan's owner and their marketing manager are members of our web site. Perhaps they can help with info of how their tubs were marked/serialized 1950's thru 1980's.
Rob I am afraid if the dash is blank for instruments then it's clearly not an M38 tub in any form such as old NOS factory or late repop.
