I am ready to put the timing cover back on my L134 but cant seem to find the proper way to install the oil seal for the cam shaft. Should it be installed like pic #1 or #2? I cant recall how the old one was installed, nor trust previous owner had it right anyways.
I think pic #2 is correct as shaft will slide on from the rear of cover but just want to be sure.

You generally install seals in such a fashion that internal pressure acts against the back of the rubber "V" to increase seal pressure against the shaft.

It goes in the same way it is laying in the top photo. The open side of the lip always faces the source of the oil.

Thanks guys. Thats the presumption I made with skyjeep's explanation. I installed the first one(few weeks back) the other way and ripped the seal during install so I will install correctly this time and be more careful during install.
