Winch slimline UJ diameter

OK I'm trying to build a drive shaft set up for the M38 Ramsey winch.
Now, I have a complete drive shaft with all the UJs and hanger bearings, slider etc from an ramsey ex. m606/A1 or may-be A2 but I need to convert this to slimline UJs. I can buy various slimline UJs from my local bearing services shop.
Some of which look no stronger than a 1/2 inch squre drive socket set uj!
Now I've checked my TMs and I've looked at the pictures here in the down load area and I can't figure out what the maximum diameter of the slimline uj used is.
I think I'm best off using the maximum diameter that I can get away with and I guess Willys had the same idea but it still needs to clear.
So can anybody tell me the max diameter of the slimline UJ used? then I can figure out my clearances and fit etc.
My next question is what kind of torque is transmitted along this shaft (I see there is no shear pin to give me a clue) as I can imagin that being a question I'll be asked at the parts counter. No point in buying half a dozen only to find they work as weak shear pins every time the winch line is strained.
My last question, looking at my books I can't see how the winch is protected from being overloaded in the M38 or even the doner M606/A1 (other than spinning a UJ) my Ramsey from the 606 is the 200 series but mechanically looks like it works exactly the same as the 50. I'd have expected a shear pin in the line some place.
Thanks,
Dave.
