M38 hood fitment

I am working on getting my m38 ready for repaint. One thing i have never liked on my jeep is how the hood fits. It over hangs the grill by a lot. What are some ways that i can fix this?

I just measured mine. Don't know if it's correct or not, but at the center seam of the hood to the face of the grill the hood overhangs 11/16ths of an inch. The edges of the hood near the fenders overhang the grill pretty much the same +/- a 16th. I think it looks good, but never gave it much thought. Where the hood bolts on the cowl and where the fenders mount are pretty much not adjustable except for hole slop? Don't recall seeing any measurement in the TM about it, but I'm still a rookie.

I don't see anything terribly out of line. Mine lines up pretty close
to the edge of the fender. Roughly. Yours is a little forward.
The radiator guard has a little slop, but as Ron mentions once you start
bolting things on going forward it will sit where it sits.

One more thing Bill. Check to see that the guard (grille) is perfectly vertical.
With my questionable eyes it looks like it may be leaning just a tad to the rear. Just loosen the three bolts through the fenders on each side and it should rock on the hinges.
A little adjustment can change the look quite a bit.

At least one of the front inner fenders shows a bulge close to the front row of bolts usually cause by a hard bump to the grill which pushed the grill aft a bit.

there have been past posts about this issue and mainly dealing with aftermarket hoods and/or fenders.

My fenders grill and hood are all orginal equipment however it does look like my jeep was hit in the front at some point. I am switching out my grill as it was bent. However i have been doing some work on the jeep and you can see the over hang better in this photo.

Hi Bill,
There is also discussion of the fenders jamming into the cowl
on each side. First thought is a front end hit, but an airdrop can do
the same thing. In that case it's just the effects of business as usual!

I also noticed a slight bend in the body when working on it this week. It is in the cowl behind the fenders in front of the firewall and the body bends inwards on both sides. You can feel a high spot.
