I need to pressure test my m38a1 coolant system. The radiator neck is larger than any of the adapters in the kit from local auto store. Is there any tricks to modifying or another way to pressure test system ? I read up on pressuring the over flow tube, but with only 4 LBs needed, don't want to chance anything.

I have two different pressure test sets and both have adapters that fit. I suggest you shop online to find more options than seem to be available at your local auto parts store.

Or Google the same equipment as a rental!

Don't overlook the Stant 12270 tester. It has a nice adapter listing in the Stant catalog.

The correct cap is either their 10228 (Oem type) or 10328 (Release valve type).
the correct test adapter is their 12552

Their catalog for pre-1994 models is:

Their catalog for pressure testers, adapters and parts is:

If you have an O'Reileys Auto Parts store near you, check their tool loan program. Its free and should probably have what you need.

I pressure tested my M38's coolant system by using the rear plug on the L134 head.

I tried oreily first, and they didn't have anything. In all weirdness, harbor freights did. They have a tester set and you can mix and match to create one that fits the radiator, and it works. Found out my radiator is weeping a little and the water pump just has a constant stream coming out lol. Getting new pump this week.

Well ratdip. If it's not one thing it's another.

At least you found out before you got 500 miles from home....
