I understand that the M38 only had two places where the MFR's serial numbers were placed. On the dash data plate and on the plate mounted on the right fender well behind the passenger seat.
Why do you suppose the M38 didn't have a frame number attached or stamped on it like the MB and GPW?

The civvy jeeps like the 2A quit using them around 47. I think the military decided it didn't want one. Made it easier to adjust vehicle counts and move bodies and engines around. Also may have had a little to do with undisclosed lend lease policies after WWII known better as MAP (military assistance programs) with many third world countries.
