I just stumbled onto some of these photos that i have not seen before. They may already be somewhere on this site that I have not seen yet, but thought I would post them in case they are not.

those are some awesome photos and reveal many interesting things especially photo 4. I t would be cool if you could read the calendar on the right of that shot to see when it was taken.

They are all interesting and hint at what items were painted as an assembly
and what was attached later.

Photo 4: even more interesting. That's quite a smorgasbord of Willys
products those ladies are working on. Up front an early M38. Note noise filter already installed on the firewall. Next in line a CJ3A. Note the drain hole on the lower left of the tub aft of the step. Can't see 3 well but it appears
number 4 is a truck?

Assembly line painting. Each guy has certain spots he paints.

Again photo 4:
The tub is painted, gas filler guard is not installed nor are the top bow
brackets.

Photo 5, guard and top bows and brackets are installed, as is spare and
gas tank brackets, and straps for the latter.

Note in #5:

1-That last chassis is a truck. Has an F134. the chassis & axles are all black.

2-The M38's chassis is all OD (except the washer & nut on the shocks) and the axle assy's are OD drum to drum.

3-Looking at that tub the only things I see without OD on them are the light & reflector lenses and the plumbing at the floor riser going forward & something hanging under the passenger floor. The top bows and all three brackets on the left side are OD.

What's interesting to me is in the photos, there is a Station Wagon line beside the M38 line. Wonder if this explains how my M38 has a Station Wagon engine serial number?

These are all such nice clear photos of different times in the building process. They are a lot of fun to look at and pick apart.

I will keep adding more as i find them.

No Mark, If your jeep has a station wagon serial it's because some civilian owner had a need for a title for his M38 and just used an old station wagon title to title his M38. The Army's rep at the Willys plant would have never signed off on a delivery of an M38 with a wagon serial. The format of the two serials is not even close.

My BAD Mark, I read your post as chassis serial. Having a wagon engine serial is the result of someone using a wagon engine to replace the original M38 engine during your m38's civilian life.

The photo photo of the tubs is a CJ3A followed by 3 M38's.

The engine's are all single belt groove crank pulley civvy engines with vacuum advance distributors. The third engine is a 6 cyl. The rest look like F134's.

Note the timing hole in the rear engine plate and the stamped rib for timing at the front cover plate.
