Hi Guys,

Can someone tell me what the fuel tank anti-squeak material is? The ORD doesn't say much other than width and length. Is it rubber or some type of composite gasket material? Also, how thick is it (in height)? I'm going to be messing around with my restored A1 tank this weekend and when I pulled out the Doc Juan junker there was nothing under the tank. This made it sit a little low in terms of where the fill tube exited the hole in the side of the body. To get the gasket to fit I had to prop up the tank about a 1/4 inch. I need to order some anti-squeak, but won't have it by the weekend to play with. So.....I can make wooden spacer bars for now or cut some rubber strips, but I want to check fit everything and would like to know what the anti-squeak stuff is and how thick it is.

thanks,
bob

The anti-squeak is the same stuff used between the fenders and the tub. It is fabric based and I won't use it in my jeeps. I switch to silicon rubber strips which won't absorb and retain moisture and cause rust. Also customize your layout to insure no water can be trapped in between the strips.

If you google this topic as: "Gas tank anti-squeak willysmjeeps" and or search it here there are several threads on this exact topic

Yeah, I'll see what I can steal.......errrr.....borrow from work. I should have my gas tank finished by this weekend.....so we'll see how it all goes together.

You said you did some soldering. Like to see what you did.
I had mine fixed, turning the ring which had been repaired
poorly in the past.

The fixer loosened one of the joints that I now have to repair.

Hi B,

I'll put up a separate post on how I soldered the tank so as not to hijack my own thread. The results turned really good, but unfortunately I forgot to take some "before" pics......and I've coated the tank now with gloss black POR-15 so you can't see any detail..........but I can talk you thru it just fine.

regards,
bob
