Hi Guys,

My A1 came with a lockable button latch on the glove box, but no key. A good yank gets the door opened, but I want it functional. It appears new, but I don't see any number stamped on it to identify what key it used. So I'd like to take it apart and remove the tumbler so I can still us it (until I pony up for another one with a key).

I don't see an easy way to disassemble......but it must come apart. Anybody done this before?

Post a closeup set of photos. Dis-assembly depends on what type and brand.

Or make life easy on yourself and take the glovebox door to your local lock smith and see if he can make you a key for it!

If it looks like a military glovebox latch then I'd try the standard H700 key that fits almost every WW2 and postwar door or glovebox lock as well a Harley WLA ignition switch. The only key that I know is different is the DUKW tachometer over-rev reset key (I'd love to find one) because then only the maintenance shop could reset the tell-tale over-rev needle.

I've seen the term H700 key in a lot of ads for these glove box latches on eBay, but thought that was a type of lock, not a specific key. So all those Briggs locks use the exact same key? I'm going to post a pic of what I have in a few minutes......as soon as my onion rings are done.........I'm hungry!

Ok, here's what I got. I popped the spring out to get a better looksee, but it's still not obvious how she comes apart. I don't see any numbers or codes anywhere on it, but it looks to be new.

They aren't made to be taken apart. Its similar to an instrument gauge where that front bezel is crimped or formed around the front flange. if you are very careful I bet you can get it off by bending out the back enough to slip off. It will never look right though trying to put it back.

H 700 key will work. I have the keys in stock.

Ooooops..........I found the Key! It had slid up against the dash panel inside the glove box. It is an H700 key!
