Hi Guys,
I'm a bit confused (as usual) regarding the fuel tank strainer. The ORD shows a stand-alone strainer that slides into the filler opening. I have one of those strainers and an original tank........and it works just fine. But I keep seeing folks list a slide-in tube with a strainer soldered on the end, like that used in the M37, and they claim it's for the M38A1. Interestingly, the end of the filler tube that's soldered into my tank has 3 cutouts in its ID that would accept such a slide in tube. I've also seen slide-in tubes with integral strainer at the meets marked M38/M38A1 and the folks I talked to said these were different from the one used in the M37. So which is it......a stand alone strainer like shown in the ORD, or a slide in tube with integral strainer like that used in the M37? If this slide-in tube is correct why isn't it shown in the ORD?
thanks,
bob
Here's a link I found this morning showing a slide-in tube type strainer;

The two styles are:
Conical (Original M38A1/M151) ORD# 8329781, WO# 807205, NSN 4730-00-202-6063
and two Tube types:
Neck, Strainer (Original M38) ORD# 7375039, WO# 649749, NSN 2910-00-737-5039
The M37 used a Strainer, Filler pipe ORD# 7374913 CC# 926787, NSN 2910-00-423-2780

It is quite possible that Willys may have used the tubular type in the M38A1 between 1952 & 1956 since the earliest ORD 9 I can find is 1956.
