Late M38A1 Fording Valves

Hi all,

I've got a question about the M38A1 fording vent system. I understand that the crankcase fording valve was eliminated, but that the valve for the air intake remained. I assume that this means the pull cable for the fording valves was just a single cable that went from the dash to the air intake valve, rather than the double cable. Do I have this right, or was the air intake valve manually activated with the hood up and therefore no cable pull at all?

Thanks as always!

Hi,
Look on page 325 of the Ord 9 G758,
Reference Symbol H2,
Ordnance Stock Number H102-0432487
Ordnance Part No. 432487

PLUG, button, S, cd- or zn-pltd, 11/16 dia
hole size (for 0.037 to 0.062 material)
(Dual control on instrument panel)(superseded
by PLUG 8332574) (used on vehicles after
serial No. 23359 and through serial No. 43035.

Vehicles after 43035 used the later plug.

The dual control is used through vehicle 23359.

So they did not install the cable at the factory
and plugged the hole with a dash plug.

Somewhere there's probably s directive wiring the
vent valve at the PCV valve open.

It does not mention eliminating that valve after 23359.

Glad to help, and only able to because of all the hard work
by the folks providing our reference material!

Just to clarify the valve remaining per the book was the one
at the fuel pump/PCV valve. They omitted the one into the
crossover tube.

Maybe Wes or someone can help explain why they wouldn't
remove that one as well.
