M38a1 Wiring Routing

Hi guys -- I've got a question about the rouging of wires on the left side of the engine compartment.

1. The wires to the brake master cylinder and to the horn switch run rather close to the exhaust pipe. How are these supposed to be routed to avoid this? Do they get clips, if so, where?

2. How is the harness routed to the left headlight and side light/blackout light? Does it run on top of the frame and then up to the lights? Does the harness get clips to keep it in place at that point?

Thanks guys! Sorry to have so many questions this week!

Wes has hundreds of photos in his album.

This is just one. Of course it's from one of the
manuals, which are available here free to download
unless you have a hard copy!

Thanks Brian! I appreciate it. I've poured over that and other images in the manual, but I always seem to have a hard time visualizing it in detail (perhaps the age of these mk1 eyeballs of mine). I'll take a gander at Wes' photos.

Rainy days and an adult beverage can make poring through the albums
as well as the PS files enjoyable

Here's a top view of an early M38 steering box. An A1 guy will have to confirm
it's the same but you can see the routing is up and behind the steering box.

My photo album is laid out in individual albums and sub-albums. If you wish to look up an electrical issue on the M38A1 then by all means go to my M38A1 Electrical album. But if you are interested in harness routing and clamping then you may find a dozen photos in the other albums that just happen to illustrate the harness routing quite well. This means you will have to explore those other albums for more info. This same principal applies to the TM's laying on your workshop bench. Don't just look at the illustrations in the Electrical chapter. Instead thumb thru all the other chapter photos in your TM 9-8014 and TM 9-8015-2.

One other issue, photos loaded to our web sites album pages are stored in three sizes: 1 - thumbnail (which is shown in our index), 2 - Medium (which you access by clicking on the thumbnail), & 3 - Large (which you access by clicking on the medium image).

Another issue associated with illustration hunting is two copies of TM 9-8014 printed the same date can have a large variance in the quality of their illustrations as I have shown below.
