1953 M38A1 Windshield Top Channel

My M38A1 doesn't have the canvas top channel at the top edge of the windshield frame and shows no sign of ever having it? Is that normal?

No. They (M38A1/M170) all came with the channel. You can buy them separate aftermarket.

How was it originally attached, should there be screw holes?

OK, I looked real close at the top of the window frame and I can see about 7 or 8 little spot weld areas across the top about 1" down from the top edge. I wonder why someone would bother to take it off??? It was off in the VFD picture I have that's 30+ years old.

They usually get removed when a civvy metal top gets installed.
