How does this part fit?

I am confused on how this part fits? I am assuming it fits under the radiator as it has similar fitment.

On the CJ Jeeps, this attaches to the front cross member behind the grill. On the side opposite the lip with holes there will be some small holes where a strip of felt attaches and butts up to the bottom of the radiator. The front edge with the holes bolts to the grill.

This was an optional part that kept sticks and debris (from field work) from coming up behind the grill and possible getting into or clogging the radiator. This part was most likely use with the front chaff screen.

thanks for the info. So they did not have this on the M38's?

I have never seen one--nor is this part listed in the parts manual for the M38. So, it wouldn't be correct for a M38 restoration. However, if you are going to use your M38 off road, this would be a handy option to install. i believe you will find all the holes to mount it in the frame and grill. The felt is the same as used between the grill and radiator and uses the same staples to attach it to the part you have.

That piece works with this M38 grill, which so far seems to be a pre-production grille.

This is the only one that the experts I have discussed it with have ever seen.



Barely visible is the cross member mounting tab that goes through the rectangular hole in your piece.
