M38 CDN BROKEN SACKLE INSIDE FRAME, HELP!!!!

Post by boucher »

I HAVE MY 52 M38 CDN DOWN TO THE FRAME . THE LAST THING TO DO BEFORE SENDING THE FRAME OUT FOR SANDBLASTING IS TO REMOVE THE SHACKLES .I WAS ABLE TO GET ONE OUT YESTERDAY, THEN I SNAPPED THE 7/8 HEX HEAD OFF WITH MY BREAKER BAR ON THE SECOND ONE . WHAT DO I DO NOW????

THANKS, PETER (OTTAWA)

It's probably too late, but there is right and left threads, penetrating oil applied over and over, some heat, and try a small chisel to turn it out. May

You can try getting the bushing red hot and then find a way to turn it. Which of the 4 shackles was it? Left front and right rear shackles are left handed threads. You can saw thru the verticle run of the "U" shaped shackle then with vise grips or monkey wrench on the 90 degree arm remaining and a lot of heat and penetrating fluid you should be able to turn the inner part out. Then you'll have to use a hack saw or air chisel to get the outer bushing shell out of the spring eye or shackle bracket eye.
