Wes I noticed on one of the pictures in the gallery a m-38 with that windsheild vent opened like it was on a hinged system. Is there a kit to do this?

That M-38 probably had a CJ3 windshield... M-38 vents are bolted closed and do not open...

That plate wasn't meant as a vent was it. Isn't it suppose to be for the heater mounted on the cowling? It really would be nice to put a hinge on it so it could be use as a vent.

The plate was meant as a vent on the CJ3A and when Willys adapted the 3A windshield to the M38 they left the hole and panel but bolted the panel shut. To make it work as a vent just add the 3A parts to the existing panel and windshield.

I was just asking, I don't think I would do that. I do not modify anything. Beside's, it would not work if you have a scaberd there.

Thanks for the pic. I wondered what the the setup looked like. I probably wouldn't modify mine either, but it does get hot in the summer time in the on the passenger side of he vehicle with no air coming in when moving at slower speed.

The problem for some of our members is their state may not allow operation on the public road system without a windshield installed. Other's may require a helmet with face shield to operate with the windshield removed or folded down.

A better mod here would be to insert the CJ3B's ventillated Windshield insert into their M38 windshield. It would require some cutting and tack welding but could be made to work but could also be very expensive.


This is a CJ5 but the CJ3B insert is the same.

Wes, as I said before , I had a Bill past in the Florida Legislature two allow the windshield to be down. In the state of Florida if you own a CJ, you can not have it down, but former military can. Also you must have a tag for the vehicle, but it's not required to be mounted as long as you have the era bumper markings on it. This also cover's old fire engines and foreign military vehicles. Frank, What sort of tag are you talking about. Is this the same as registering the vehicle as a Former Military Vehicle?

Anyone here from Texas that knows if one could travel with he windshield down in Texas?

You still have to reg. your vehicle in the normal fashion, but you do not have to mount it on the vehicle. Also known as a "On demand tag". You must have it in the vehicle glove box or in my case I keep it in a map case that is behind my seat (and still in the origenal envelope that it came in.) I may post the Bill in my gallery alblum soon.

OK guy's the Bill is posted in my Photo gallery. Everything that is underlined are change's in the oringenal statue. Also let me remind you that whenever the vehicle is on a public street, it is ON puplic display. They also perscribe that when the windsheild is down, that the driver and passenger wear safty glass's perscribed by the Dept of Motor vehicles , inwhich they never perscribed any.
