Wire harness tape or not?

I finished re-wiring my early Army M100 (serial number 01169903) light harness from the front connector to the lights with new mil-spec 14 gauge wire and Douglas connectors.

Photos in the manuals seem to show the harness without any tape or asphalt loom of any kind. No reference to tape anywhere I can find, and nothing in searching this forum either.

My original unmolested late model USMC M100 (serial number M750759) has the hard-wired intervehicular cable and the rest of harness is fully taped from the drawbar all the way to the lights.

It seems like a good idea to tape the harness for additional protection. Would the Army or a depot overhaul tape a wire harness from stem to stern that didn't come that way from the factory?

Looks like none of the early or late M100 parts or maintenance manuals make any mention of taped harness nor do they show the harness any other way then untaped.

However the M416 manuals show tape.

My M100 (early) was taped to the intervehicular cable socket. I will be going back with a hard wired cable which will be taped also.
