They are the early tapered style flywheel dowel bolts. They are normally not re-used but instead replaced with a modern shoulder bolt kit. This info is in the manuals.

Thanks. At least I asked while I still had a chance to use them. Darn if I remember them during disassembly. I bagged and tagged everything but them...I hope. Flywheel is installed with new bolts and torqued to spec. Hopefully, I'll get the hang of the photo posting next time.

Here I have modified the original drawing to make it more obvious which are which. Simply put when you ordered either a new flywheel or a new crank it came with the shouldered dowel bolt kit and instructions for drilling the old part, be it either the crank or flywheel.

You are lucky you got the six bolts installed before you installed the rear main bearing cap.

A blind hog finds an acorn every now and again. I got lucky and read a "what not to do" when assembling a L134 before I began. What's your address?

And if you have an early M38 with a timing mark hole and timing marks on the flywheel, make sure you don't mount it 180 degrees out of sync with #1 cylinder TDC.
