I had the time today to do a little looking at my jeep and to start to fill out my survey. Here is a little of what I have found. Engine number is MD 104915 i have a prestolite generator 28amp the serial number for it appears to be 4484. I have an autolite distributor cover and the voltage regulator is DC electronics. As soon as I can I will send pictures and get the rest of the information on the survey. All of the data plates are missing so I have no idea of serial number or dod. I have grill that doesn't fold down I have the new style fenders and the catch for the passenger seat.the battery box lid is held down with a latch as opposed to the screws. Any date information you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff

Are you sure the engine # is MD104915? Could it be RMD 104915?

I could have missed the R I will recheck in the morning. I take it that's not a good number?

It may be a bit high for your jeeps year. I just want to make sure it is not a Factory Replacement Engine (RMDXXXXXX)
Prestolite's serial number system combined a letter with a number in it's prefix. So for example if yours was 3K 4484 it would be a Mar (3) 1955 (K) generator.

Looks like your generator is serial 4494 but that looks like a rebuilder's plate not the original Prestolite/Auto-Lite plate.

Here's an original plate.
Your engine casting # and casting date aren't much help verifying the serial.

No it certainly does't look like one however if you note how lightly stamped the MD is, it is certainly possible the R could have been machined off on an earlier decking of the block. I would guess at this point you have a 1954 or 55 unit. I'll reserve a final comment until I see your completed survey form. You should mak a sincere effort to get the date codes off the axle housing and the tranny/transfer.
