52' a1 carb

Just got around to looking at my carb that I wanted to use on my a1 but it turns out it is a 637ys so now I need to come up with one. I am not going for an all out military restoration so can anyone suggest what I should use? From what I have read some of the options are the ys950 a carter yf or a solex. Are they all the same performance and reliability wise. Thanks all for the help.

Either the YS-950S or the YF-938SD or the YF-4002-S will all give you more than adequate service if maintained correctly and rebuilt using latest technology. The Solex is a last desperate try at a one barrel after bad experiences with improperly maintained Carter's. It's much the same with electric fuel pumps. They become a band aid for poorly maintained equipment because inexperienced folks think new production is always a better answer. The YF's interchange easily with the YS's and linkages remain the same. Keep in mind the YS and YF series are both designed for off camber offroad use. The Solex is not. No matter which you choose try to stay top shelf with any rebuilders or top shelf quality rebuild kits. Thorough cleaning and flushing, including all capped passageways is absolutely necessary.

The Holly 1904 comes off the Ford Falcon six.

Thanks for the advice Wes I will try to find one of the carbs you recommended. Can you steer me towards a good carb kit or rebuilder.

Don't overlook local shops. These carbs are piece of cake for any experienced carb rebuilder. Look for the old guys and look for the guys working competition engine carbs.

A forum member has a ys950 that he would be willing to trade for my 637 but the 950 is missing the float, float pin and some screws. Thoughts anyone.

Parts are not real easy to come by. Go to your parts list, look up the part number for those three items and start a google search for each. If you cannot locate all three of the parts then I would not trade.
