Starter Question

Guys Have a Autolite 24v Starter which has been donated to me to use as a spare. The Starter Lever needed to be connected to the body of the starter.

I have noticed that the shaft with the two Woodruff key slots which are lined up in the same plane on the shaft do not match the Woodruff cutouts on the starter lever & the Yoke assembly one is 180 degrees out from the other.

The only thing holding the starter lever in position on the shaft in this case is the split pin which mounts through the hole in both the lever and the shaft.

Has the previous owner placed the yoke the wrong way round in the starter??
Or am I missing something more obvious?

If it is the wrong way round is there a manual for the starter?

Any advice would be welcome

Regards

Nic

The Starter like the rest of the Autolite, Prestolite & Delco Remy units on the jeep has a brand specific manual TM 9-1825B dated 1952. The excerpts that apply to our Willys military jeeps are on the downloads page in free PDF format.

At the top heading, just click on downloads and then look in M38/M38A1 "Electrical" a few of the specialty manuals are in the Manuals page of the downloads.

Just reverse the yoke in the starter head. I recently did the same thing when rebuilding an Autolite starter with all new parts.
