Well bubba took off the windshield hold down footman loop

If someone could measure theirs and let me know so I can make a new one that would be great. I’m so close to getting her make together

About 2 1/8" center of hole to center of hole. Both my M38s have those welded on. Welded right through the screw holes to the windshield frame.

Funny I was just looking at it 10 minutes ago. If they had been screwed on I thought I had a good place for a rearview mirror to mount to without altering anything.

My footman loop the same size as all the rest on the truck, and also welded on. Hard to figure why they did one of 22 that way?

I use a strong magnet to mount my mirror (vintage 1950-something Chevy truck mirror, nice tinted glass).

It scuffs the paint a bit after taking it on-off a few times, but no unauthorized holes and it stows well in the glove box without rattling around.

I like your magnet approach. No new holes is a requirement! Also you don't want it showing? Stow it in the glove box as you say. Even better (for me) is when the 50cal is mounted I can move the mirror further to the right to still have a useful second mirror.

maybe a real thin sheet of Mylar on the magnet to stop scuffing the paint?

What magnet did you use? I like that is seems to have had a mounting bolt or hole.

I have a NOS GPA mirror I have been saving for something like this and with the magnetic base I can l keep taking it with me from vehicle to vehicle.

Yup, the magnet sits in a chrome steel cup with a hole through the center. I can't remember if the hook was riveted in or had a nut on it. Either easily removed. I might've had to enlarge the hole a bit to mount my mirror arm into it. Also had to scuff the chrome to get paint to stick.

I experimented with a thin piece of felt over the magnet to keep from scuffing the paint but it made the magnetic connection a shade too slippery for me. Still messing with a solution in my spare time.

Great, I was looking at as many pics as I could find and they all seemed to make the footman loop look small

I found mine at my local hardware store and farm supply store. Both places had all sorts of them. They're nickel plated so I blasted them a bit then painted them. Mine are 2 1/8.
