M38 markings

Hi. I have a1952 M38 which has stars on hood, sides and bumpers but no unit markings on the hood. Were the registrations all applied at the factory or were any shipped maybe to a holding area with no registration? I don’t plan to paint it so I don’t want to sand the hood and lose the paint that’s there and still not find some hidden markings if it may never have had them.

Unit markings were applied to the bumper and bumperettes not the hood.

All painted on at the factory.

thx Wes. My mistake I meant registration on the hood. Also to confirm did Willy’s also paint the unit markings on the bumpers or were these applied in by the reviving unit?

The registration numbers were the only thing Willys painted on the jeeps. If you take a bit of time and peruse my photo albums this will become obvious to you. The link to my albums are at the bottom of everyone of my posts. You'll find photos like these of the Willys pre-delivery parking areas:
