Valve spring retainer keeper?

Post by jeeptj1 »

So I’m in the process of installing my new intake valve. (Already done). In adjusting them, I noticed that the exhaust valve doesn’t have the beveled keeper on it. It appears to be newer than the others. the keeper just resembles a lock washer in two pieces but not beveled. Can’t get a picture of it. Thanks John jr. 1952 m38.

If this is a rotating valve can I still use it? Haven’t seen much on them in the forum. Thanks

The rotator type exhaust valve was standard for the M38 L-134. You should have 4 of them if your engine is a MCXXXXX or RMCXXXXX emgine.

Thanks for the pic Wes. I only have one rotator Valve for number one exhaust cylinder. The rest are using The beveled keepers. If I want to change the keepers to the beveled ones can I still use the same valve and spring and retainer. Thanks John jr.

Read your ORD 9 SNL G-740 carefully. It shows exactly which components can be used together. It is not as simple as you are trying to make it. For one thing the valve is different for the rotator application. Read very carefully!

Wes, I don’t profess to be a good reader but from looking and reading the g740, it looks like the only thing interchangeable is the the valve spring itself. Man that’s a thick book. John jr.

Looks like a previous owner got a good deal on a few exhaust valves of the older type and just threw them in. You will find that happens often in this hobby.
