M38A1 fuel line tee

Why is there a Tee in the fuel line on the A1's at the regulator bracket? Was it simply a coupling or was there some secondary purpose?
Also, I have a ell bracket with a 1/4" hole welded to the top of the frame about 12" behind the regulator bracket, is this for a brake line clip?
Thanks,
Mike B

Probably from a custom gas heater installation way back. Post a photo of which bracket you are referring to.

Hi Mike,
the TEE (128275) is the "fuel supply junction" for the cold weather priming kit, or a gasoline operated heater kit without a extra tank, like the power plant heater kit.
Normaly plugged with plug 143932, no kit is installed.
The other reason is, the longer the fuel line is, so unwieldy it is to install.
So it makes sence to install a TEE to connect two shorter fuel lines, instead of one longer, and it is the easiest/ best place to have a fuel supply branching.
That bracket is to attach the fuel line with a clip.
Take a closer look to the TM's.

That Tee is for a heater kit, but not custom. It is a standard item on the M38A1. This is where they tapped into to get fuel for the gas fired arctic heater kit.

Thanks for the responses!
The gas heater makes perfect sense now and it is easier to deal with the shorter lines...
That's the ell bracket I was asking about...seems like there should have been another one further back on the frame as well, just before the line turns towards the middle of the jeep at the floor riser.

Thank you Frank & John. I finally looked in the ORD 9 and found the "T".
I had already reviewed PM-1571 Dtd 7-3-53 (ORD# 8359666 for the gas fired personell heater kit which also has the instructions in it for the dash mounted hand primer. This manual states the primer is "T"'d into the fuel system at the fuel pump inlet and the heater kit is "T"'d into the fuel system at the carb inlet.
The full manual is here:

Now the Powerplant Heater Kit is this one and does not show any connection to the frame fuel line Tee.

John which heater manual do you have that shows that heater kit using the M38A1's right frame rail fuel line TEE?

The manual shown is the early version that did not require it because it had its own stand alone fuel tank. I will look for the other.

Sorry Wes,
My fault
I have not had that PM 1571 before.
So I don't know the exact line routing of the primer pump lining.
Now I'm a little bit smarter again.

No worries Frank. That's what books are for. I really have never been able to figure out why the M38 has a service document dedicated entirely to the dash primer and the M38A1 does not. I know that Willys dropped it's attachment early on at the Army's request to reduce procurement costs but apparently they left the provisions for it to be installed in the field.
