I took a wire wheel to the shocks that came with my jeep and this is what was under the OD, rust & crud. Are these 'original' shocks?

I was looking at a very old thread where a member was unsure about the presence of stone guards and I had not seen photos of these shocks in the albums ...... but must have missed the pics also. Oh, well.

Do I get any points for identifying with pics that WO 800992 is the one with the stone guards ..... and that some type of crimping attaches the guard to the shock ... and the dimensions of the stone guards..... and that both front &rear shocks look about the same length ...and the base paint is OD....

We love pics, especially OEM stuff, as at this late date those are rare things to find on a 70 year old multi owner used vehicle.

The lower end of the rear shocks on a MB are attached behind the rear axil with the stone guards (if present) facing the rear axil. Right??

I looked at several diagrams, watched a G503 video, and read several threads on M38 shocks .... but am still not sure which way to point my M38 rear shock stone guards .... forward to stop incoming rocks or toward the rear axil to stop ricochets ??

My bet is forward --- to intercept and deflect hits coming off the front tires.

Naturally, this wouldn't work if the jeep is driven in reverse a lot....
