I'm looking into buying a 1958 CJ5 I know its not a military jeep but its in my price range. It has the overhead valve 4cyl 3spd and I wanted to know what kind of fuel mileage can be expected from one of these.
I have herd of some older engines (not necessarily this engine) needing hardned valve seats to run Unleaded gasoline. Is changing the valve seats necessary or not on this engine?
Thanks,
Tony

In stock form the hardened seats aren't absolutely necessary. Hard highway or high RPM driving they may help.
Gas mileage depneds on many variables but you can probably get something between 8 and 12 MPG.
