Hello:

I'm currently sandblasting my frame and am getting closer to the day I can prime it. What I need to know is what is a good primer . I must tell you that my sandblasting job is not 100% meaning I have some small areas that are not that metallic grey color. What would you recommend

I used a product called POR15 to prime the frame on my M-38. It's made in New Jersey and you can google search it to find out where you can get it near you. It's expensive, about $40.00 a quart, but it 's supposed to chemically bond with the rust/steel to completely seal it from moisture and corrosion. It worked great on my frame. I also used it to coat the repro body I put on my jeep. Check it out. Good luck, Dennis/New Jersey

I'd just go down to a local body shop and ask for epoxy primer. The stuff is amazing. It hardens very quickly but it holds back any rust.

Whatever primer you use, make sure it is compatible with your paint.

I'll second that. I did my entire M38A1 in it. The stuff is amazing. It's 1 part too, so no mixing and super easy to apply. It doesnt take very long to harden too.

i have been using a grey tremclad primer over bare metal, and i find it works good. normally, once a part is primed, it needs to be painted within a short time before oxidation begins. i decided to give this primer a little test before actually using on any of my military vehicles, so i cleaned a piece of truck frame free of rust, then primed it with two coats. once dry i set outside, and where i live you couldn't ask for a more salty environment. two years later, and no rust what so ever...primer still holding up well. i figure if it can handle that , then it will work well for a resto on a jeep. it can be had at canadian tire for about $40.00/ gal. p.s. i'm from N.B. too....out in the woods west of saint john.
