M38 Air cleaner - Buy used or repro?

M38 Air cleaner - Buy used or repro?
I have had mixed quality with some of the repro parts I have purchased.
My M38 is not for shows, etc., so I am not worried about getting points knocked off for non-original equipment. (If they do that).
Opinions are welcome.
Thanks

Hi. My 2 cents.

Started out wanting mostly original take off or NOS parts for my project. Using the ‘real stuff’ is so very cool but there are a few areas where a good repo is often the wise choice.

I bought and refurbished an original M38 air cleaner. A difficult job to make it look good unless you can find a near perfect unit to work on. If you can’t find that pristine original unit.... get a good repo and move on.

I was about to list other stuff that argues for using repos but much depends on your project goal. After two years I still struggle with the vision thing.

I too don’t plan on chasing points but have a vague desire that the jeep ends up being mostly authentic, which may not be the best of choices. 8)

I’ve not seen a repro M38 air cleaner.

Midwest Military has decent takeoffs.

Ouch. The “gently” used one I got from John was much less than that.
