Is there a differance between the drag link of a M38 and a A1?

The M38 and the A1 used the same drag link. There are three part numbers for the link. One is the bare link tube, the next is the link assy without the grease fittings and the third is the complete link assy with the grease fittings.

This data is easy to pull from the supply manuals.

I must be doing something wrong then, because the new spring is larger then the old and the adjusting plugs will not turn in far enough to get a cotter pin in. The book shows a different plug for each end.

I discovered that the adjusting nut on the gear end is not a hex nut and it will recess into the link about a 1/8th of an inch. The new springs where too big (long). The only thing I replaced where the ball seats. I did find that someone did in fact put a hex adjusting nut on the gear end with only half the cotter pin going thru, I replaced it with the round adjusting nut. The steering is much better.[/u]
