Here's what you find when you ask for suitable sub for a 7.00 x 16 tire from a tire dealer:
You will want to get a replacement tire that is comparable to the size of your 7.00-16 size tire. Your current tire has a section width of 7.00" and is 28.88" in diameter. The closest size tire that we have to this is the size 235/80-16 which has a section width of 9.25" and has a 30.79" diameter.

Just be aware the wider non-stock tires can cause interference. The bump stop? steering stops are supposed to prevent tires from contacting suspension/steering parts. My 235’s rub at extreme steering turns.

Yeah definitely, backspacing is terrible on the original wheels.

I decided years ago the GI tires were unsafe on Ice and Otherwise slippery hard surfaces and since I live in northwestern Wisconsin I ran the NDTT's only for shows and usually during the summer months. I have always converted to the aftermarket white spoke wheels with conventional snow treads for most driving using an aftermarket wheel meant to fit the early 1970's Ford F150. I found early on the the Ford F150 15" 5 hole rim patterns fit very nicely on my M38 and M38A1 and CJ5 with an offset that caused no serious interference issues with sheet metal or steering controls.
