The very basic rule in vehicle maintenance is follow the manufacturer's recommendations. If Willys' directions do not require additional sealant use with a gasket and the manufacturer's instructions that came with your new gasket do not require any additional sealants then the answer is no.

It is very common for folks not familiar with the equipment or the maintenance pubs for that equipment to assume more stickyness is always better! But this is not true. Over 95% of all gaskets were designed to seal all by themselves.

The only time I would consider adding a form of sealant not specified in the manual or the gasket's manufacturers directions is when there is some form of damage to the sealing surfaces and I am unable or unwilling to repair that damage.

Nice tip from Wes for me was to use Permatex gasket sealant on the pan side to assist with the installation while working under the Jeep.
