M38 front 1/4 panel and Step OEM design

Post by Mjp83 »

Hi everyone,

I am working on the front step section of my tub, making the sheetmetal transition between the body and the step. Specifically where the cowl support leg meets the floor.

I have looked through some photo albums but can not see a close up of this area, specifically, where the rear of the step attaches to the side of the tub.

My Jeep had a metal tab which spot welded to the side of the body, but they are long gone.

I have attached some pics from what appears to be an SGI replacement panel for a CJ3a.

Does the sheetmetal cuts and angles circled appear to be close to OEM and is the tab coming from behind the step also close to what I should be looking for?

Thanks!

I have found some pictures on Wes's body album page 1 and 7, but maybe someone has a better closeup. Lots of Jeeps are posted online but most are angled to where I can not make out the tab and/or how the sheetmetal under it is cut.

Thanks.

Thank you Wes, yes I have seen those except the second to last picture, viewing the underside. Is there any chance you have a pic just right of where the photo ends? I am curious where the “L” tab meets the floor and side of body. Also how long is that part of the tab? I see the passenger tan has the axle unbolt bolted through it. I am making a new ones, and my originals were no ok get on the body. Thank you!

If you look closely at some of the figures in the TM 9-8012 like Fig 130 (top), 128, 127 and 2 you can see some details there including the passenger side step plat rear bracket being pierced by the axe handle bracket bolt.
