Engine serial number

Post by JahRafa »

My M38 engine serial number was machined off during engine repair. Is there a way to re-stamp it?

Thank you in advance

Some shops and most military overhaul depots will usually leave a record of the overhaul somewhere on the engine. Usually a plate with references to the engine and a work order.

Often times after the block deck is machined the serial stampings will be slightly visible. As in this example. Sometimes by spreading a fine layer of steel filings over this number and magnetizing the block in this area will cause the filings to display the edges of the numbers. Also with a dye one can often improve the outline of these almost invisible numbers.

What is your block's casting number?

if you wrote it down before sending it then just pop into harbor freight or whatever and buy a cheap set of stamps and a hammer.
